Notes: The NFL merged with the All-American Football Conference (AAFC) in 1950. The AAFC operated as an independent professional league from 1946 to 1949. The original members of the AAFC were Brooklyn Dodgers/NY Yankees, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Hornets, Los Angeles Dons, Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers. When the leagues merged, the Colts, Browns and 49ers joined the NFL.
The NFL had a team named the "New York Yankees" during the 1927 and 1928 seasons. The Pittsburgh Pirates were renamed the Steelers in 1941.
